In the Deccan, the poet emerged as the chronicler of myths, legends, historical events and battles. In the introduction s/he sets out the way this differs from other anthologies/histories of critical movements but I'm sad to say the book doesn't quite live up to its aspirations. Lists of kings and foreign tribes, myths and genealogies of gods, historical traditions, the proverbs of popular wisdom, taboos, lucky and unlucky days, charms, the deeds of the tribal heroes, were some of the things that came out when the poet unlocked his word-hoard.
